Desk Posture:

  • Use the "90-90-90" rule: student's hips, knees, and ankles should all be at approximately 90 degrees, as well as elbows when resting on a desk.

  • Foot stools or telephone books wrapped in duct tape can help support feet and maintain the "90-90-90" position.

  • Having students facing toward the front of the room, as opposed to sitting at an angle, will help increase focus and body posture.

  • Slant boards can position the paper on the desk to reduce head movement when looking up to the board and down to the desk for copying, increase body posture, and increase penmanship

  • Dycem or Rubbermaid shelf lining can be used to keep materials from slipping around on the desk
